Athletics events, wrestling bouts and cleaning of venues by players and officials have been the highlights of the ongoing Tandarust Punjab Mission.

Sports activities are being held under the campaign by the Punjab Sports Department at various venues across the state.

The local office of the State Sports Department also conducted an athletics meet at Dashmesh Coaching Centre, Raikot, wherein players took part in long jump and 400-metre race.

In the long jump event for boys, Jaskaran Singh proved his superiority clinching top honours. Dharampreet Singh and Harpreet Singh secured the second and third positions, respectively.

In the girls’ section, Nimrat Kaur Sidhu came out triumphant and was followed by Jatinder Kaur and Snehpreet Kaur at the second and third place, respectively.

In the boy’s group, Dilawar Singh proved too fast for his opponents to win 400-metre race and Gurkirat Singh finished at the second place while Sonu Kumar secured the third position.

In the girls’ section (400-m race), Gagandeep Kaur claimed the first position while Arshdeep Kaur and Jashanpreet Kaur finished as the first and second runner-up, respectively.

The sub centre — Miri Piri Wrestling Akhara — was the venue for wrestling bouts. In the below 57-kg group, Pardeep Kumar, Ripdaman Singh and Jagtar Singh secured the first three positions.

Likewise, in the below 65-kg section, Taranvir Singh bagged the first spot, Jashandeep Singh secured the second position and Vijay Kumar finished at the third place.

In the below 74-kg category, Varinder Singh emerged winner while Harjoban Singh got the second position and Luvpreet Singh had to content with the third position. In the below 85-kg group, Gagandeep Singh stood first, followed by Gurvir Singh and Nishant Kumar at the second and third place, respectively.

Besides, players, coaches and other staff of the department cleaned their respective venues.
