Ludhiana, February 14

A supporter of the Lok Insaaf Party has accused a former mayor’s son of ‘assaulting’ him with the handle of his revolver this afternoon.

The LIP supporter, Parveen Goyal, an industrialist of SAS Nagar, accused Amanjot Singh Gohalwaria, son of former mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria, of attacking him here today.

“When I returned from my factory this afternoon, I saw Amanjot Singh Gohalwaria tearing the posters of the LIP-AAP candidate. When I tried to stop him, he attacked me with the handle of his revolver. Amanjot also tried to shot me but his revolver misfired. I complained to the Shimlapuri police but no action was taken in this regard,” he alleged.

Gohalwaria, whose wife is contesting the MC elections from Ward Number 41 on SAD ticket, resides close to his house, Goyal added.

Meanwhile, the LIP MLA, Simarjit Singh Bains, claimed he had submitted a complaint to the Election Commission in this regard.

Former mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said the allegations were baseless as no one attacked Parveen Goyal. “The fact is that LIP-AAP supporters started arguing on the issue of hoardings. They tossed the turban of one of the residents. My son had no revolver as the weapons have been submitted at the police station following the implementation of the model code of conduct. They want to defame us by levelling false allegations.” — TNS
