Armed robbers target bizman’s house

LUDHIANA: Some unidentified robbers armed with sharp weapons looted cash, gold jewellery worth more than Rs20 lakh and some other articles from the house of a Jagraon-based businessman after taking the family members hostage on Saturday night.

Some unidentified robbers armed with sharp weapons looted cash, gold jewellery worth more than Rs20 lakh and some other articles from the house of a Jagraon-based businessman after taking the family members hostage on Saturday night.

The incident took place around 8:15 pm in Street Number 8 of Heera Bagh locality of Jagraon, which is a posh locality. The Jagraon police have registered a case against unidentified persons in this regard and investigation was under way.

As per the information, the robbers looted around 600-gram gold jewellery, more than Rs10 lakh cash, three mobile phones and two scooters from the house. The robbers had covered their faces and were carrying sharp weapons when they entered the house around 8:15 pm and spent around 45 minutes in the house before fleeing with the booty.

According to sources, five persons were involved in the robbery. “There were total eight family members including four children and two women in the house, when the incident took place. After entering the house, the accused locked the house from inside and tied the children and women. They threatened house owner Nachatar Singh and his son Navjot Singh that they would kill the children if they do not reveal the location of cash and jewellery. The robbers ransacked the house and tied Nachatar and Navjot before fleeing,” sources said.

After some time, the house owner managed to untie himself and informed nearby residents about the incident. Area residents informed the police, following which a police team led by DSP Jagraon Prabhjot Kaur and other senior police officials visited the house and launched a probe.

SSP Jagraon Varinder Singh Brar said the police have registered a case against unidentified persons in this regard and search was on to trace the accused.

“The police have been scanning the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in nearby areas. The police have found some crucial clues about the accused and the hunt is on,” the SSP said. The police have also not ruled out the involvement of someone known to the family in the incident.
