A city-based resident was duped of Rs 11,250 on the pretext of selling a mobile phone on the online shopping platform, OLX. The suspect posed as an Army man, said the complainant.

In his statement to the police, Rajesh Kumar of New Kundanpuri said the suspect introduced himself as Vikas Patel. “The seller, posing as Army man, had put up a mobile for sale on OLX. He also sent me a copy of his Aadhaar card and other documents. He asked me to send money to his Paytm account. I paid him Rs 11,250 through Paytm. But he later demanded more money,” said Rajesh.

A case under Section 420 (cheating) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has been registered against the suspect at the Division Number 8 police station.

It is the third such fraud case in the past one week. A resident had earlier complained that a person, who also posed as Army man, duped him of Rs 15,000 on the pretext of selling a mobile on OLX. A woman had also filed a similar complaint.
