Ludhiana, April 27

The Union Public Service Commission on Friday evening declared the final result of Civil Services Exam 2017 on its official website. Ludhiana-based Akhil Pilani has secured All-India 22nd rank while Juhi Jalota, who is married here, has bagged 122nd rank.

Akhil (28) has completed his graduation in Information Technology from Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology. He had worked at Samsung Research and Development for four years. Later in 2016, he cleared the Indian Information Services (IIS) under the Civil Services.

Akhil said: “This is a very prestigious exam and it was always on my mind. In October 2015, I started preparations for the exam. I used to study for 8-10 hours daily. Revision and practice is the only thing which helped me to clear the exam. The exam is itself a motivation because you get a chance to work at the grassroots level and contribute to society.”

Akhil took coaching from Shri Ram Institute (general subjects) and Vajiram Institute (optional subjects) in Delhi. His optional subject was sociology.

Juhi (28), who hails from Gwalior, relocated here four years ago after marriage. She completed her engineering from Jalandhar and had worked at an MNC in Delhi for one year. She has cleared the exam in the third attempt.

Geetanjali, her sister-in-law, said: “She was fully determined towards the Civil Services. She wanted to contribute to society that’s why she chose it as her career. She has broken the jinx that marriage is the last option. She was able to crack the toughest exam in the country.”

Juhi cleared the mains in her first attempt. However, she could not clear the interview. She left her job to prepare for the exam. She had taken coaching from Sri Ram Institute for one year, followed by self-study for two years. She used to study eight hours a day. Her core subject was philosophy.
