A ten-day international training on “Crop protection chemicals for food security, safety and their residue management” began at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Monday under the aegis of Environmental and Culture Society, Hisar.

The Department of Entomology, PAU, has organised the course for 10 (ADO level) officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Kabul (Government of Afghanistan). The chief guest, Dr JS Mahal, Director of Extension Education, emphasised the role of integrated pest management approaches and spray technology in agriculture.

Increase in global agricultural production during the last few decades has come about through the adoption of high-input farming systems with dynamic role of pesticides, but the indiscrimate use of pesticides have ecological and environmental concerns, he observed. As training is an interactive learning process, it will be beneficial for both the trainees and faculty members, said Dr Mahal.
