Action week: 17 child labourers rescued

On the second day of action week being observed by the District Task Force, 17 children were rescued during raids conducted against child labour. The raid was carried out in the Payal and Sahnewal areas of the district.

Assistant Commissioner (Grievances) and Nodal Officer Kanu Garg said: “We had received a complaint from an NGO about child labour at Sundernagar, wherein we rescued 16 children, who were working in a small-scale hosiery unit. One child was rescued from the Sahnewal area also. We have got them medically examined.”

Rehabilitation report

Chairman of Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Sukesh Kalia has said: “It is our duty to rescue children from bonded labour and impart them education under the RTE. We have formed a task force to check child labour and child begging. They can’t shy away from their responsibilities. I will ask them about the status of rehabilitation of the children rescued.”
