Khanna: The Khanna police claimed to have found a man who was allegedly abducted by some persons from Sanet village near Ludhiana two days ago. The victim has been identified as Manjit Singh, a resident of Barnala. Khanna SSP NS Mahal told the media that a police party had laid a naka near Gurthali bridge in the wee hours. During the naka, the police signaled a white Alto to stop. On seeing the police, the car occupants threw the victim out of the car and fled. The victim told the police that he was abducted by some persons on the evening of August 9 near Sanet village. According to the SSP, Manjit Singh's wife Rajinder Kaur had lodged a complaint of her husband's abduction with the Sarabha Nagar police and a case under Section 364-A of the IPC was registered. OC 

Interactive session by CICU

Ludhiana: The Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertaking organised an interactive meeting with Dr Roshan Sunkaria, Principal Secretary, Department of Science Technology and Environment. The meeting was to discuss the measures to control pollution caused by the industry in systematic and effective manner. Upkar Singh, General Secretary, CICU, welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. He requested the chief guest to set up a separate zone for the Red-Category Industry to control pollution. He said setting up effluent treatment plants would help in discharging the pure water after treatment. Roshan Sunkaria assured the industrialist that effluent treatment plants would be made operational at various places soon. TNS

One held for illegal mining 

Ludhiana: The police nabbed Charanjit Singh, a resident of Sherpur Beit, on the charge of illegal mining during a raid at Bagga Khurd village in the Ladowal area, near Sutlej river, last night. Three tipper and two JCB machines were recovered from the spot. The police said four persons, who were engaged in illegal mining of sand, slipped away from the spot. The accused were identified as Satwinder Singh, alias Bittu of Bagga Khurd, Rachpal Singh and Gurpal Singh of Haibowal, besides Gulab Singh of Laddian village. 

21-year-old commits suicide 

Ludhiana: A married woman (21) committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at her in laws house in Puneet Nagar last evening. A case of dowry death under Section 304B, IPC, was registered against her husband on the complaint of Raj Kumar, the father of the deceased. Raj said his daughter got married to Sanjeev only a month ago. Immediately after the marriage, he started torturing his daughter for dowry. He was asking the deceased to bring Rs 2 lakh in cash. “When I went to meet my daughter two days ago, she told me that her husband was physically torturing her and demanding cash,” said Raj. “Yesterday, I got a call from her husband, who informed me that my daughter was admitted at hospital due to bad health. On reaching hospital we found her dead,” alleged mother of the deceased. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The Salem Tabri SHO, Amandeep Brar, said the accused was arrested.

Four vehicles stolen

Ludhiana: Four vehicle thefts were reported in the city. In first case, Lukesh Mislani of Joshi Nagar said his Santro car was stolen from outside his house. In another case Pankaj Arora of Arya Mohalla said thieves took away his Activa scooter parked outside Rakh Bagh on Wednesday. In the third case, Nand Kishore of Jeevan Nagar said his bike was stolen from Focal Point, Phase 5, on Wednesday. Sunil Kumar of Giaspura also alleged that his bike was stolen from the Focal Point area on Wednesday. TNS
