Ludhiana, February 18

A few days old baby girl, abandoned by unidentified parents in a vacant plot on Kakowal Road in the city, was handed over to the authorities of SGB Children Home (an orphanage) today.

The home is being run by Swami Ganga Nand Bhuri Wale International Foundation at Dham Talwandi Khurd, situated 15 km away from Jagraon.

As per information, the girl was found from a vacant plot on Kakowal Road a few days ago. After recovering the girl child from the vacant plot, the Basti Jodhewal police admitted her to the Civil Hospital.

According to the Basti Jodhewal SHO, Inspector Mohamad Jamil, some area residents informed the police about the girl child after noticing her in a vacant plot.

The district administration handed over the child to the authorities of SGB Children Home after completing all the legal formalities. The Swami Ganga Nand Bhuri Wale International Foundation secretary, Kuldeep Singh Mann, said doctors conducted medical examination of the child and she was found to be in good health.

Social activist Kulwinder Kaur Kailey was also present when the girl child was handed over to the SGB Children Home authorities. Kailey said it was a matter of concern that Punjabis, who were known for scarifying their lives for the sake of their sisters and daughters, were now abandoning their girls.

Mann said, “The SGB Children Home is committed to the welfare of orphans. Children are looked after with love and care at the home. We try to provide a home-like atmosphere to children and best possible facilities.”
