7 attained martyrdom in Lahore jail

LUDHIANA: Former Punjabi Sahit Akademi president Prof Gurbhajan Gill said very few people know that on November 16, 1915, a total of seven freedom fighters, including Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, had attained martyrdom in the Lahore Jail.

Former Punjabi Sahit Akademi president Prof Gurbhajan Gill said very few people know that on November 16, 1915, a total of seven freedom fighters, including Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, had attained martyrdom in the Lahore Jail.

Prof Gill said the seven freedom fighters included Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, Shaheed Bhai Jagat Singh from Sur Singh village in Amritsar, Shaheed Bhai Bakhshish Singh from Gillwali village, Shaheed Bhai Harnam Singh Sialkoti, Shaheed Bhai Surain Singh (Chhota) from Gillwali village, Shaheed Bhai Surain Singh (Wadda) from Gillwali village and Shaheed Vishnu Ganesh Pingle from Yerwada in Maharashtra.

He added that it is the duty of the state government to educate the masses, especially youngsters reagrding freedom fighters.

Prof Gill urged the government to recognise the contribution of six other martyrs as well.
