Rail traffic remains disturbed in the region causing poor visibility during early morning and late evening. The Railways, as a result, had to cancel six trains, two others were partially cancelled due to operational reasons, while a couple had to be rescheduled for late departure.
Railway authorities said the 12241/42 Amritsar-Chandigarh-Amritsar Intercity Express, 14673 Jaynagar-Amritsar Shaheed Express, 15209/10 Saharsa-Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa Express and 22423 Gorakhpur-Allahabad Jansadhdran Express trains were cancelled for the day. The pair of 14613/14 Ferozepur-Chandigarh-Ferozepur Express train was partially cancelled between Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) and Chandigarh in both directions.
Two other trains — 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express (1.15 hrs) and 13151 Kolkata-Jammu Tawi Sealdah Express (1.20 hrs) were rescheduled for late departure.
The cancellation of 12241/42 Amritsar-Chandigarh-Amritsar Intercity Express and partial cancellation of 14613/14 Ferozepur-Chandigarh-Ferozepur Express train spelled trouble for commuters and daily passenger, who take these trains for up and down journey from their hometowns to work places.
Similarly, many passengers to and from the national capital were also harassed as 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express and its corresponding train 14681 New Delhi-Jalandhar Intercity Express were running late by more than two hours each, while 12497 New Delhi-Amritsar Shan-e-Punjab Express was also delayed by 45 minutes.
