In all, 375 cases of the violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 have been registered for selling food items not adhering to the required standards in the district. More than Rs 11 lakh have been collected as the fine money. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Aggarwal. He said 375 cases have been registered from January 1, 2011, to June 31, 2017. “Anybody sub-standard food will not be spared,” he said.
Two booked for raping girl
The Jodhewal police have booked two persons on the charge of raping a girl. The accused have been identified as Varinder of Jonewal village and Baljit Kumar of the same locality. Complainant (25) of New Kuldeep Nagar told the police that her sister Mahinder Kaur was married to Baljit Kumar in 2011. She said she was friends with her sister’s brother-in-law Varinder. She said Varinder had promised to marry her and developed physical relation with her on this pretext and refused to marry her later. She said her sister’s husband was aware about the molestation and supported Varinder.
Liquor peddler held
The police have arrested a liquor peddler with eight cases of liquor. The accused has been identified as Gurpal Singh of Alamgir village. The police said a routine naka was laid on the Gill road and the motorcycle-borne accused was stopped for checking and liquor bottles were recovered during the search.
Man booked for wrong info about father’s death
The SBS Nagar police have booked a man on the charge of making his father's death certificate by furnishing wrong information about the place of death. The accused has been identified as Gurmeet Singh of Model Town Extension. Complainant Bhupinder Kaur of Preet Nagar told the police that his brother had grabbed the property of her father Prem Singh in Model Town Extension, where the accused is currently living. She said her father had died in Pakistan during his visit to pay obeisance at some religious place, but her brother had shown that he died at his house to grab the property. She said her brother had managed to get the death certificate from the Municipal Corporation by fraud.
