Two occupants of a car were killed (one on the spot) and one was severely injured when the vehicle rammed into a stationary truck on the flyover near Zimindara Dhaba this morning. They were returning from Delhi.

The truck was parked on the road after its tyre got punctured. The car driver, Darshan Singh, and his mother Satinder Kaur, who was in the co-driver’s seat, were killed. Their relative was admitted to the Apollo hospital in a serious condition. His wife Simranji Kaur escaped unhurt.

Simranjit, on whose statement a case has been registered at the Sahnewal police station, said the truck was parked in such a way that it was difficult to make out its actual position from a distance in the wee hours. She said they belonged to Amritsar and had gone to the Delhi airport to see off their daughter Harsimran Kaur, who had to fly to Canada.

A case has been registered against the truck driver who fled the spot.

The investigating officer said the police had a tough time taking out the occupants from the car. They tried their best to save Darshan Singh who breathed his last at the Apollo hospital.
