Ludhiana: The police seized 124 cartons of illicit liquor near Partap Chowk following a tip-off on Sunday evening. The driver of vehicle carrying the illicit liquor, however, escaped. The police have registered a case under the Excise Act at the Division Number 6 station. “When the police signalled a vehicle to stop at a naka, the driver and another person travelling in the vehicle jumped out and escaped. We recovered 124 cartons of illicit liquor from the vehicle,” said ASI Sulakhan Singh. TNS  

Woman held with heroin

Ludhiana: The police have arrested a Nigerian woman with 696 gm of heroin. She has been identified as Joe Occo (27), a resident of Ikeza Lagos City, Nigeria, and at present residing at Dwarka, New Delhi. Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said a police party, manning a naka near Pristine Mall, Alour, noticed a woman going towards the mall after alighting from a bus. They stopped her for checking. A search of her bag yielded 696 gm of heroin. She was arrested under Section 21/61/85 of the NDPS Act. The woman told the police that she brought the heroin from Delhi and was going to deliver it to someone in Amritsar. OC

Martyrs remembered 

Doraha: Ludhiana unit of the Marxist Communist Party of India (United) (MCPI) paid homage to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev at KK Kaushal Memorial Bhawan, Doraha. Thirty activists participated in the event. The activists called upon the Central Government to treat the martyrs as “National Heroes”. OC
