1.5-kg opium recovered in Doraha

During a special drive initiated on the directions of Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya, the Doraha police has succeeded in recovering 1.5-kg opium from the custody of a Taran Tarn resident here on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Sukhvir Singh, a resident of Bheni Mattuya village in Tarn Tarn district.

Doraha SHO Hardeep Singh Cheema, along with SI Teja Singh and others, were checking the suspected vehicles and persons during a naka on GT Road. On frisking the accused, 1.5-kg opium was recovered. A case under Section 18/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Doraha police station and the accused has been arrested.

A few day ago, Doraha police had recovered 100 injections of avil and 100 of buprnorphine from the custody of a few Banga residents.


Two held with 2,950 boxes of illicit liquor

Khanna: The Khanna police claimed to have arrested two persons with illegal liquor.  The accused have been identified as Sukhdev Singh Sukha, a resident of Shankarpur, and Manpreet Singh, a resident of Mehmadpur Jatta near Patiala. Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya told the media that a police party was patrolling on GT Road when they received a tip-off that illicit liquor was being carried in two trucks coming from the Rajpura side and going towards Ludhiana. The police had nabbed the accused with 2,950 boxes of illicit liquor which was meant for sale in Arunachal Pradesh. The police also confiscated their trucks. A case under Sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act has been registered against them. The SSP said a police party also raided the house of one Gurjant Singh Janta of Panjrukha village and recovered 108 bottles of illicit liquor and arrested Gurjant Singh. The accused has a criminal background with six FIRs registered against him in various police stations. A case under Sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act has been registered. The accused will be presented in courts on Wednesday.
