Going by the recent trend, we have seen women ruling the content space in films, television and digitally. Web series domain has particularly seen a burst of great female-centric shows that have created quite a stir. Showcasing strong women from different walks of life, these characters have struck a chord with their progressive attitude and relatability. Here’s a look at some of these females who are ruling the web:

Dia Mirza in Kaafir

At the heart of Kaafir, ZEE5’s new show is a stellar performance by Dia Mirza. The actor plays the part of Kainaaz, an imprisoned Pakistani woman. Most definitely the best role of her career, Dia aced this role displaying separation, anguish, love, pain, humanity, sacrifice and hope in this cross-border struggle.

Shefali Shah in Delhi Crime

In this gut-wrenching story that received unanimous praise for its real portrayal of the 2012 Delhi rape case, Shefali Shah plays a police officer with nerves of steel and the quest to put the rapists behind bars. Sobhita Dhulipala has made headlines with her edgy, vulnerable and driven role in Amazon Prime’s wedding series Made in Heaven. Playing a woman who peddles the myth of a happily-ever-after, the storyline navigates between her professional and personal life crises. From fighting marital infidelity and the inadequacies of the most basic security, her character Tara seeks tangible luxuries beautifully portraying the dichotomy of the human character. 

A gripping storyline
Huma Qureshi in Leila

Showered with praise for playing a character that has broken stereotypes, Huma Qureshi has the titular role in Leila on Netflix. The show is a gritty, powerful tale set in a dystopian world. She has raised the bar for great acting even higher. Her portrayal of being a mother searching for her daughter in a totalitarian society fighting issues of authoritarian rule, religious divide and environment crisis is beyond perfect and she owns her character with honesty.
