This summer, chill out

The little white dress is for a summer day what little black dress is to a first date - the safest and the best bet, and not to forget, a wardrobe staple. Each season, we mean spring, they tell you this and they tell you that. But for those who find their way tough to navigate through trend reports and fashion jargon thrown in the face every quarter of each year, here are a few easy-breezy summer classics revamped for a refreshed wardrobe.

Starting with, what else? Florals.

Power packed

As prints and tie and dye reach saturation to the point of suffocation this season, certain silhouettes are all set to romance the entire summer. Bows of all shapes and sizes, and at every possible place, from the bows on the collar to the ones around the waist and even at the cuff, will be seen out and about.

Talk of sleeves and puff sleeves will single-handedly replace the statement sleeves or by now done-to-death off-shoulder sleeve trend. Nods fashion stylist with a leading website, Bhawya Chawla, “Power to the shoulders is the slogan in the fashion circuit since a couple of years now. Puff sleeves are steadily making its way on to becoming a bigger trend and they are here to replace the off-shoulder sleeve trend.

Short & sweet

While cycling shorts with blazers will never be street fashion in this corner of the country, shorts with blazers are more likely to pop their head out instead. Cycling shorts, an extension of athleisure wear, popped their head out on the runways of Fendi and Roberto Cavalli.

Adds Bhawya, “Be it cycling or structured or airy Bermudas, knee-length shorts are truly a trend to watch out for.  Don’t forget to get comfy with some fancy flat sandals that have an extra oomph factor like fringe or feather or tie up.”  She also recommends banking on neon hues. “Another big trend that’s been borrowed from the 80s is the neon. Surely not for the faint-hearted, this trend was showcased by designers Prabal Gurung, Versace and Gucci, with evening-wear in neon colours making them a great alternative for the LBDs. For all practical reasons, neon colour ensembles look best when styled with whites and nudes for a perfect summer look.”

Classic cut

Don’t forget, apart from florals, the classic white shirt and the little white dress! Just incorporate a few buzzwords doing the rounds and they are bingo.
