After singing high-end bags and gaddiyan, its yariyan, next! And, Snapchat singer Jassie Gill brings it to you on screen, along with Ranjit Bawa and Ninja, in High End Yaariyan.

The singer-actor, who got appreciated in his Bollywood debut, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, is on a roll. Juggling projects in Hindi and Punjabi, he isn’t the one to leave singing behind for the love of acting. Nikle Currant, his latest single, and this Punjabi munda are enjoying every bit of fame. “I knew I could sing, but never thought of being a singer actually. I tried, got the love of my fans and as I was told, I could act too; so, films were the next obvious step.”

Hands full

High End Yaariyan, which is set to release next Friday, celebrates friendship. “After Yaar Anmulle, industry hasn’t really seen a film like this. Set in England and Punjab this one is a story of friendship, misunderstanding and how to bring the life back on track, along with people you love as well as trust,” he says. Jassie adds that the shoot was a breeze, “I know Ranjit Bawa since a couple of years and share a good bond; it was first time knowing and working with Ninja. It was huge fun being together with the two.”

Be it music or films, competition is fierce, so does he track his competitors? “I love to see and listen to other singers-actors, but my competition is with myself. With my each new song or film, if I get to hear that I am getting better, I am quite content.”

A very supportive actress

Next, for Jassie Gill is Panga with Kangana Ranaut, the shoot for which is on. So, how is she as a co-star? “She is fabulous; very talented and helpful. We shot in Bhopal for a month together.” It was only on the shoot that Jassie came to know that Kangana has spent long enough time in Chandigarh. “Kangana even guided me on the shoot, something that I really appreciate.”

‘My songs are clean’

Daru vajaan mardi hai runs the track in the trailer of Jassie Gill’s film High End Yarriyan, directed by Pankaj Batra, who is also one of the producers. Other producers include Sandeep Bansal, Dinesh Aulakh and Ruby. As an artiste with a massive following, does he feel responsible on what he lends his voice or face to? “I do. Commercial music is a necessity, but with time as my career has evolved so has the choice for projects. I keep in mind the kind of fans I have garnered and what they would enjoy. My songs are clean. Even if there is bit of exaggeration, the audience realises that reel and real are different, and one must keep this difference in mind.”

Jassie diya yariyan

Jassie Gill is one singer-actor who is quite friendly. “I am the kinds who returns a handshake with a hug. I love being on friendly terms with people I work,” he shares. However, in real it’s with Babbal Rai and Prabh Gill that he bonds the best. “Be it stage shows or otherwise, it’s our yaari that I truly cherish.”
