Nikka nails it, yet again!

Even though this week's release Nikka Zaildar 2 is set in a completely rural setting as compared to its prequel Nikka Zaildar, comparisons are inevitable. So, the first comparison comes minutes into the beginning on Nikka Zaildar 2.

As compared to the earlier film, Nikka Zaildar 2 begins on a slower note. Directed by Simerjit, NZ 2 has almost the similar star cast - Ammy Virk, Sonam Bajwa, Nirmal Rishi - with Wamiqa Gabbi being the new edition. The film comes up with a subtle and emotional storyline by Jagdeep Sidhu, which catches pace almost half an hour into the film. Director Simerjit like always has defined all the characters in the film well, though at some places a crisp editing would have made things better, for instance the teeyan scene in the film overextends its stay. I think, the director could have shouted 'cut' after 2-3 bolis. Since, Punjabi films these days are into making the audience aware about the customs and rituals of the old Punjab, Nikka Zaildar 2 adds to this ‘getting to know rural Punjab’ trip. The costumes and the set designs deserve applause for following the films theme to the tee.

The film picks up momentum after the interval but tends to slip in between. Nikka Zaildar 2 has some kind of emotional suspense, which the director gives away too quickly by introducing Sharry Mann. The audience is too smart to realise that one of the girls is going to get Sharry Mann, and also who that person would be.

Actor-singer Ammy Virk melts into his character, just like he did in Nikka Zaildar. With a line of hits to his credit, Ammy is only growing as an artiste. He has a bang on comic timing, and the same can be said about his emotional scenes. Next up is Nirmal Rishi, an artiste who gets a fat share of credit for the success of Nikka Zaildar, in this film too she is brilliant. Only this time, her role is slightly less pronounced. Sonam Bajwa is undoubtedly a pretty face who can act. Her extreme sacrifice in the film will make us really emotional. Wamiqa Gabbi is yet another artiste who looks pretty and acts well. Her role in Nikka Zaildar 2 requires her to be subtly authoritative, which she portrays well. Harby Sangha and is comic timing is impeccable and will leave you in splits. Sardar Sohi and Rana Ranbir justify their roles pretty well.

Gurmeet Singh's music in the film is engaging. Nikka Zaildar 2 is a funny and emotional family entertainer which could have done with some pace and crisp editing, nevertheless, this Zaildar grows in stature this time too.
