Grey hair? It’s no longer a no-no for the fashionistas. In fact, they are dying their hair to get the grey. And not without a reason.

As Harveen Kathuria, clinic manager and beautician at Cleopatra-9 puts in, “Silver highlights one’s complexion. It adds sheen to the hair.”

The colour is gaining popularity in tricity. Mohammed Parvez from Hair Buzz-19 says 20 per cent of his male clients are going for grey shade, while 10 per cent of his women clients are getting it done. “People are bored of gold and blonde. Colouring your hair in grey brings an instant visible change.”

Bani Duggal, who is a model and fashion designer, has been experimenting with different colours. After blue, purple, pink, plum, blonde and brown, she is settling down for grey. “It is an unconventional colour and it makes me a head-turner.”

Avneet Kapoor, who got her hair highlighted in silver, is happy with the effect. “It is trendy and makes for a nice experience,” she says.

Rashid Salmani, a hairdresser at IRIS by Simran-9, says that grey has gained popularity in the past two to three months.  According to him, more than the overall effect, streaks and chunks have many takers.

“Not everyone can carry it well. The number of chunks to be coloured are decided going by one’s personality and profession and how she or he styles the hair,” he says.

Grey turns to a shade of marine and ash once it starts to fade. However, unlike other colours, it does not look dirty or drab when it fades. One can easily go for silver-purple, silver-marine and silver-lavender with a re-touch.
