What will be your first reaction if you have a view of snow-capped mountain peaks and pine trees from your balcony? Yes, grab your camera and freeze that magnificent view.

Madhu Sarup, who calls herself an amateur artist, transferred those sceneries glued in her memory onto a canvas and gave a new perspective and meaning to the whole thing.

Madhu, 81, with a spirit of a child, is full of life. She admits that this artistic mind was always part of her but “my husband was Justice Surinder Sarup and to be a constant support to my husband and children, my hobby and interest in painting always took a backseat. I lost him more than a year ago and now finding solace in art.”

Not only she is active in her personal life but she takes an interest in everything that happens around her. Madhu, who joined We- a group of contemporary women artists, explains, “I am associated with the cause of women and write on women issues. Many of my works are dedicated to women who are scarred by the horrors and wrongdoings of society, such as rape victims and acid attack victims that are in the news.”

Madhu loves her independence. Also, she credits her fitness, at this age, to the stairs she walks up and down at her home and wishes to continue doing till she can.
