Inspired by real-life MP?

The striking similarities between Pankaj Tripathi’s character in web series Mirzapur and that of real life mafia don-turned-politician Dhananjay Singh has left everyone perplexed, wondering if the character was originally inspired by him. 

Pankaj is donning the darkest character of his life, as he plays the role of Kaleen Bhaiyya, a drug lord in Mirzapur. While he might be dangerous to the world, he is most loving towards his family. Similarly, Dhananjay Singh is known as the don from east UP who had won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections as a candidate of BSP which was then in power in the state. Considering this fact, Pankaj’s character surely seems to have been inspired by Dhananjay.

Meanwhile talking about the series, with heart-pounding action, violence, gangsters with sharp minds and dry humour, Mirzapur is a hinterland story that is as raw as it gets.
