Fitness is increasingly becoming a way of life and trust Chandigarh to keep up with the global standards. No more just the weights or the treadmills or a mere jog at Sukhna Lake; whether it’s HIIT, Crossfit, bodyweight training, transformation programmes – you have all new methods here.

Fit & fine

Far from the maddening crowd is Shruglife CrossFit. Spread over 10,000 square feet in Kansal, on any given evening one can see some guys enjoying soccer. The artificial turf set on the semi-basement roof is lit by the floodlight. Down under is one of the largest CrossFit boxes in the country. A table-tennis table on one side, there is a track to warm up with certified trainers helping you out at each step.

Sahir Gill, a regular for a year, highly recommends the place. “All you need is 45 minutes and you are sorted for the day,” says the man, who lost as many as 16 kilos in one year and loves his regimen. “The real exercise is about 20-25 minutes, the rest is warming up and cooling down. I feel CrossFit meets my fitness demands just about well.”

Body zone

At the other end of tricity is Kris Gethin Gym; 13,000 square feet of high-end technology, right from superior biomechanics in Cybex equipment to state-of-the-art body composition analyser - the InBody 370s. “The standard has been set,” says Jai Inder Singh, for whom Kris Gethin, the man behind Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish transformation, set the journey from ‘fat to fit’.

“I started with Kris Gethin online tutorials and to get his signature gym in my city was like a dream come true. This place ensures that not only I get proper workout, but also guidance on how my body is responding to the regimen, so that I can modulate it accordingly.”

Right combo

Weighing 80 kilos, Namya Saraf had very little chance of becoming a model-actress she always wanted to. However, with proper combination of right exercise, diet and sleep, she is today 58 kilos. “I wouldn’t shy from admitting that my crash diet and intensive workout led me to a stage of alopecia, when I had massive hair loss. The trick is to have everything in balance – timely meals, sleep and exercise; thankfully I found the right guidance.”

“A good ambience,” works like magic says Rushi Wig. An accounting professional, she is all for Jacked Fitness for helping her achieve high standards of fitness. “For me, weight squatting is the best full-body exercise. And obviously, all exercise must be under the expert guidance. My gym suits my demands – good ambience, best equipment, helpful trainers and most of all, a good crowd.”

Novel methods

Western influences can be seen in the city’s health landscape and Charanjeet Singh Chahal ‘Chintu’ refers to tyre-tossing and sledge-hammering as one such fad.  “Some high-end gyms have incorporated tyre tricks as a new form of exercise; that’s good for strength building.”

Fun element

Tsetn Amo Tara dabbles between styling and fitness industry. Training at Sub Zero Fitness, she highly recommends a mix and match between different exercise forms. “I start the day with yoga for flexibility, and then it is gym for muscle strength.” She happily chirps away how a club-like ambience at her fitness centre keeps the ‘feel good’ factor up.
