Bollywood celebrity singer Sukhwinder Singh is in love with Chandigarh and he leaves no stone unturned to showcase his love. While in Chandigarh, this time for a private concert, Sukhwinder keeps a date with his ritual — a leisure stroll at the Sukhna Lake. “I don’t have a single picture of mine on the lake, this time I am going to click one,” he says.

Sukhwinder’s infectious energy has a rippling effect and his never-say-die attitude is his secret mantra. “Eat apple and amla; you’ll feel good and light,” adds the artiste, whose songs eventually become the anthem of every film, just like in Sanju and Soorma.

Being selective

“I don’t know how, I think the songs trace their path to me somehow. My music directors and composers insist that I should sing more, but I don’t want to overexpose my voice.” Though Sukhwinder wants to practise discretion, Bollywood industry is too much in awe of him to let him be away from music. Sukhwinder’s voice will soon be heard in films like Thugs of Hindostan, Gold, Zero, Bati Gul Meter Chalu and more.

“Now, I want to sing a real Sufi-rock combination, and AR Rahman will sure share a small surprise on this,” adds the artiste, who wants to be always remembered as a performer and not a legend.

Happy space

“I celebrated my birthday with the people of Chandigarh this time, singing, dancing and interacting; this is what I love doing. I realised this as a kid that in order to be happy myself, I had to also keep people around me happy.”

Though it is way too early to talk about what he plans to do 10 years down the line, but Sukhwinder Singh has all sorted out already. “I will sing, maybe classical-jazz, but Sukhi will never stop,” he is already excited by the proposition. “And one more thing,” he quickly completes the sentence, “I want to see a non-stop downpour in Chandigarh, the city I love.”  jasmine@tribunemail.com
