I was called by the casting manager.

How did you get this role in Jhansi Ki Rani?

I was called by the casting manager. I went and did a reading. They liked my Hindi accent and that’s how I got the role.

How much do you relate to the character?

I can relate to my character a great deal. Specially, being a foreigner in India, ever since I was growing up.

What’s the best thing you love about your role?

The uniform! It actually does the magic. It kind of helps me get into the character. Also, once you put the uniform on, you start feeling like you are on duty.

Who is your favourite co-star on the set and why?

I can’t say I have a favourite co-star…Rajesh, Anuja, Anushka…they all are very good at what they are doing. Everybody is doing a great job and it is fun working with everyone. It is good and easy-going when we are not shooting, but when it comes to working, everyone is pretty serious.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Five years is a long time, but I feel after this show, I might get into direction and produce it as well. I have been working on it with a few friends and I am just waiting for the right time.

You are quite straight forward as a person. Do you get into trouble because of that?

I have always been like this, so this is not something new for me but the world is definitely adopting this change. I have always said what I feel. It gets you into trouble sometimes because people are used to hearing everything sugar-coated.

What changes do you find in the industry over the years?

The industry is definitely opening up now. New web series are kind of changing people’s mind. Actors are getting more freedom to choose the kind of work they want to do. There are no limitations as such.
