Is this your first theatre experience?

No. I have done many plays such as Aastha, Kakaka Kiran and Selfie. I have done a play called The Wrong Number with Felicity Theatre and Jhumroo for Kingdom of Dreams.

What is so special about your role in this play?

The play itself is special and is highly successful in other languages like Gujarati and Marathi. It was a privilege to work with the director of the play, who has also directed the Marathi Ananya. Generally, you see makers selling the rights of their plays to be made in other languages, but Pratap Phad sir wanted to do the Hindi play himself.

Since it’s an adaptation of a hit play, does that put more pressure on you?

I don't know about the Gujarati Play but in the Marathi version, Rutuja Bagwe has excelled beautifully. When I watched her, I was completely speechless and seeing her play this character with such ease and grace actually scared me to death. I knew it was going to be a really big challenge for me as there will be comparisons.”

Films, TV, theatre or web – which one is your favourite medium and why?

TV is a different medium as you don't get much time to prepare for your character and in web series, you get complete creative freedom, something that you don't get in TV as you are bound by limitations and guidelines. In films, you have big budgets and theatre is a medium that is spontaneous. So all are different and I enjoy all of them.

Since there are no retakes in theatre, did you ever face stage fright?

I experience stage fright before every single show. Before every show, I get cold sweat and my fingers tremble.

Are you consciously avoiding television?

Right now, I am constantly saying no to TV as this play Ananya is taking most of my time. This will go on till August. Once it’s over, then I will think of taking on more work.
