UPES launches new courses

University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun, held two sessions in Chandigarh last week to apprise students from the city and nearby areas with the courses being offered at the university.  

In the academic year 2017-18, UPES has introduced three new courses - BA, BBA and BCA with first-of-its kind specialisations to provide students necessary skills and knowledge for today's competitive corporate world. The new programmes are: B.A Economics with specialisation in Energy Economics, BBA Accounting and Information Systems and BCA (with integrated training to earn industry certifications from Microsoft/SAP/Oracle/Cisco).

Speaking at a roundtable Utpal Ghosh, CEO & President, UPES, informed that the university has designed specialised programs in high-growth sectors like oil & gas, power, infrastructure, IT, design, planning & architecture, public policy and legal studies. The university has tie ups with some leading global organisations have come together to develop engineering-IT courses to meet the growing demand for rightly skilled and highly employable students. UPES has academic collaborations with IBM, L&T, Xebia, Cisco, Mahindra, Philips Carbon Black Ltd., Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. and KPIT to offer highly specialised B.Tech courses. 

The School of Design Studies (SoDS) of UPES organised a 'Design Dialogue' event on April 23 for students interested in design courses. Abhinav Vidyarthi, Industrial Designer, IIT Bombay and Chetan Sorab, LG Electronics interacted with students about building a career in transportation design, industrial design and interaction design. 

Admissions for all UPES courses are currently open and the university is offering scholarships and teaching assistantship worth Rs 3.53 crore to meritorious students.


MBA admissions on for Shiv Nadar varsity

Shiv Nadar University,  Greater Noida, announced admissions for its MBA programme open at an event in Chandigarh last week. Highlighting the need for management programmes that are industry aligned and global in perspective, Dr. Shubhro Sen, Director, School of Management and Entrepreneurship of the university said, “Designed by distinguished faculty from the university, Harvard Business School, the Haas School of Business, U.C. Berkeley and IIM Calcutta, the iGlobal MBA  has many distinctive features designed to prepare students for global careers and entrepreneurial success”.

In addition to the existing iGlobal MBA programme and the Bachelor’s in Management Studies (BMS), the university is all set to launch a Ph.D. in Management from this year. The courses are being offered under the aegis of the School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) in the academic session commencing July, 2017.

The iGlobal MBA is benchmarked against the very best programmes in the world; it provides opportunities for global exposure to students before they graduate via semesters abroad at prestigious partner universities, internships and projects, distinguished visiting faculty and a unique cross-cultural leadership curriculum.

The SME has broadened the eligibility criteria for students applying this year for iGlobal MBA. The scholarships offered have been made more lucrative to attract high potential students and/or entrepreneurs with work-experience and well-developed business ideas.

Apart from the existing programmes, SME will offer a Ph.D in management this year, which will be aimed for students and professionals seeking careers in academia, research institutions and consultancy. An Executive Ph.D. option will also be available for professionals who wish to continue working while pursuing a doctorate in Business Administration.
