Students looking for a valuable internship this summer can check out the  Swachh Bharat Summer Internship launched by three ministeries recently. The Prime Minister had exhorted each individual to devote at least 100 hours to Swachhata (cleanliness) through the year in 2014. And taking a cue from there the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) in association with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) launched this summer internship. The participants will not only clean the area selected by them but also help in setting up the sustainable cleanliness and sanitation system.

Eligibility & duration 

Candidates enrolled in college/ universities can apply for this internship programme. The students also have the liberty of choosing between the state of residence and state of institution. Students can also take part individually or as a team (members should not exceed  10) in consultation with the nodal officers. The duration will be 100 hours. Besides students from college and Universities, youth from NYKS can also register for the internship

Awards and recognition

Each participant will be given 2 UGC credits, besides cash prizes for the top candidates. The best three interns/ teams will be recognised at college, university, state and national levels. Their awards are as follows: 

  • College level: Shields / cups and special certificates 
  • Cash awards . 
  • University level: Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 along with appropriate certificates
  • State level: Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 along with appropriate certificates
  • National level: Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000 along with appropriate certificates

How to apply: Log on to www.sbsi.mygov.in. Nodal officers at college-level will coordinate the implementation of the internship.

MHRD has already issued  instructions to college and university levels. The period for taking up the internship has been kept as a minimum of 100 hours any time from May 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018. 

The last date for registration is June 15, 2018.

Aim

This internship aims to engage youth across the nation in the cleanliness drive. This will provide the basic knowledge of sanitation-related work to students. The suggested activities in this programme have been divided in three categories:

  • Education-Communication activities
  • Solid waste Management related activities
  • Support in toilet construction.
