Youth killed over petty issue

A minor fight claimed a youth’s life at Babrik Chowk here today. The deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar alias Happy who was attacked with swords and sharp-edged weapons by some youths yesterday.

According to Police Commissioner Praveen Sinha, preliminary investigations revealed that three youths on a bike and hit Happy’s nephew who was standing at the juice corner. Happy, who was standing nearby, rushed and slapped one of them. Perturbed over this, the youths allegedly threatened him of dire consequences.

Later, they along with their several friends returned in the evening and attacked Happy with swords and sharp-edged weapons. Happy got seriously injured and was taken to a hospital immediately where he died of excessive bleeding today.

The case was cracked by DSP (probation) Jaskeerat Singh who has just joined the department two weeks back. Applauding him, Sinha said solving a blind murder case in just two weeks of the job is highly commendable.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has accused the police of hushing up the matter and has claimed that Happy was killed by the drug cartel operative in the area.

While installing huge hoardings, the family has claimed that he had stopped drug business in the area due to which had received threats to his life.

They also created uproar before his cremation and even refused to cremate his body, demanding arrest of the accused. It was only much assurance the family finally agreed to cremate his body.

A case under Section 302 has been lodged at the police station number 5. The police have managed to identify the accused through CCTV cameras installed near the incident site and has also rounded them up. The hunt for the other accused is on.
