In a case of rash driving, a 45-year-old woman was crushed to death near Jyoti Chowk, here, today.

The accident occurred around 12.30 pm when a speeding car hit a woman and left others commuters injured. The deceased was identified as Ishrati Begum, a domestic help and a resident of Basti Danishmandan. She was going to the local Civil Hospital by foot.

Eyewitnesses said Vimal (55), a resident of the Football Chowk area, was driving her Volkswagen car. When she reached the busy area of Plaza Chowk, she lost control over her car which first collided  with an Activa scooter, then a Bullet motorcycle and a car.

Aman Jain and his daughter Chetna, who were riding the scooter, received injuries, including fractures on legs. However, ASI Santokh Singh, who was 

riding the motorcycle, fell on the road.

After the colliding with the vehicles, the Vimal’s car hit the deceased, who died on the spot. Later, she hit a private van of a bank. The incident was captured in CCTV cameras of local shops, which confirmed that the woman was carelessly driving the vehicle.

It is learnt that she was not a trained driver. After the incident, an angry crowd gathered around the site. However, police personnel from the PS Division No. 4 managed to take her to the police station.

SHO Paramjit Singh said the accused was arrested and a case of negligent driving had been filed against her.
