Jalandhar, January 15

Having received an authority letter by the party high command to contest from the Phillaur Assembly seat, PPCC general secretary and former Vikramjit Chaudhary was greeted by party workers at his residence this morning. The Phillaur ticket was first given to his mother Karamjit Chaudhary.

Vikramjit, who went mum for three days after the announcement of his mother’s candidature instead of his own, now seemed excited and said, “I have won one battle, I am ready for another one too”. On his silence, he said, “I was just focussing on getting the things right. I did not want to speak to the media till then. Only yesterday I got the symbol and authority letter signed by AICC president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Madhusudan Mistry.”

His father, Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, mother Karamjit Chaudhary, wife Shveta Raj Chaudhary and mother-in-law Nirmal Raj, were also present. The father-son duo paid obeisance at Dera Bramdass Akalpur, Dera Matamaiya, Dera Rishi Thakardass Haripur village, Dera Sant Melaram, Hanuman Mandir and Shiv Mandir along with a large numbers of supporters.
