Videos shot while polling goes viral, 2 cases registered

HOSHIARPUR: The district police have registered two separate cases nominating one of the accused in the first case while the other case was registered against an unidentified person for making a video while exercising his franchise and sharing it on the social media.

The district police have registered two separate cases nominating one of the accused in the first case while the other case was registered against an unidentified person for making a video while exercising his franchise and sharing it on the social media.

According to the information received, Ramji Dass, the Presiding Officer of Booth No 43 of Simbli village, falling under the Chabbewal assembly segment, in a complaint filed with the police on the polling day told the police that Harpreet Singh Happy had come to cast his vote on the said booth.

While casting his vote, he reportedly shot a video and shared it on the social media which went viral soon.

Based upon the complaint, The Mehtiana police have registered a case against the suspect under the Representation of People’s Act.

In the second incident, the city police lodged an FIR with relation to the complaint of viral video submitted through cVIGIL App by a journo Vikas Sood of Nai Abadi.

In his complaint filed on Election Commission of India’s cVIGIL App along with the video clip, he said the video was going viral on the social media. The city police have filed an FIR against an unknown person.

In this case, an unidentified voter shot video of EVM while casting his vote showing the EVM and the vote being caste in favour of the BJP candidate. The District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia investigated the matter personally on the polling day.

After investigating the matter, she replaced the Presiding Officer of the said booth and deployed a police party in old municipal committee office Town Hall in Hoshiarpur assembly segment.

The city police have lodged an FIR against an unidentified suspect and registered a case under the Representation of People’s Act.
