The mortal remains of the veteran BJP leader and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would be immersed in rivers across 29 States and 7 Union Territories covering 98 cities.

This was disclosed here by BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday. Elaborating further, Chugh said the mortal remains of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee would be immersed in all sacred rivers across the nation.

"The urns containing the immortal remains of the former Prime Minister would be taken across various states and union territories," he said.

"In Punjab, the mortal remains of Vajpayee would be immersed in Sutlej at Ferozepur and Ludhiana and in Beas in the district of Amritsar," Chugh informed.

The BJP leader revealed that the party would be organising prayer meetings in the capitals of all the states where leaders of various parties would be invited to join in paying last respects to the departed leader. "A Union minister and a national-level leader of the party will be participating in these programmes. Prayer meetings will also be organised at district and mandal levels," he said.

"It would be an opportunity for people and leaders cutting across party lines to pay homage to Vajpayee who dedicatedly served his motherland with his dynamic vision," he added. —OC
