An undertrial today fled from the police custody while being taken to the Central Jail from the Civil Hospital. Balvir Singh alias Monu of Golian village, Garhshankar, who was facing trial in a car theft case, was brought to the hospital for examination for some ailment.

When he was about to board the police vehicle, he somehow managed to undone the handcuff and fled. The cops accompanying him tried to give him a chase, but Balvir disappeared in the maze of streets.

DSP (city) Sukhwinder Singh said Balvir Singh was arrested on September 20 this year while driving a stolen car. He said appropriate action would be taken in case any negligence on the part of the cops is found. — OC
