Two quintals of kinnow destroyed in drive

JALANDHAR: In a surprise check against fruits and vegetables unfit for human consumption, a team of the district administration today destroyed around two quintal of kinnow and 20 kg of tomatoes at the local fruit market.

In a surprise check against fruits and vegetables unfit for human consumption, a team of the district administration today destroyed around two quintal of kinnow and 20 kg of tomatoes at the local fruit market. The team, headed by District Mandi Officer (DMO) Varinder Khera, along with secretary Rupinder Minhas and others, started the inspection of wholesale fruit and vegetable market at Maqsudan.

The team checked crates containing apples, kinnow, bananas, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables at various shops. It found several kinnows and tomatoes, which were not fit for human consumption. The DMO said: “The sale of unhygienic fruits and vegetables will not be allowed at any cost.”

He said the drive would continue in the coming days and stern action be taken in this regard. — TNS
