Two held for murdering friend

The victim was murdered on July 13. SHO Bimal Kant said a dispute over money was said to be the cause behind the murder. The accused were nabbed from Kangra district in Himachal Pardesh, the SHO said. OC

Man dies after taking liquor

Phagwara: A man identified as Ashwini Kumar, a resident of Virk village, reportedly died after excessive drinking of illicit liquor in the village on Monday. Goraya Station House Officer Parminder Singh said the matter was being investigated to find out the exact cause of death. OC

Villager electrocuted

Phagwara: Jatinder Kumar, a resident of Chack Saboo village, was electrocuted in the Pipa-Rangi locality here on Monday night. The deceased got an electric shock while switching on the ceiling fan at his residence after rain. The police have registered a case and sent the body to the local Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination. OC

House burgled

Phagwara: The house of a renowned Philanthropist Mahesh Gautam was reportedly burgled in the local Hargobind Nagar locality here on Monday night. The burglars entered the house after breaking open the locks and decamped with valuable goods including an air conditioner. The police have registered a case in this regard. OC

Two arrested for fraud

Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by a Kapurthala resident Kulwinder Kaur, the police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC and The Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954, against four persons identified as Mehmood, Nabeer, Innamuddin, and Sadav, on the charges of duping the victim of Rs 3.5 lakh on the pretext of tantric remedies for her prosperity. Station House Officer Jatinderjit Singh said two accused Innamudin and Sadav have been arrested while the remaining two are still at large.OC
