Two get five-year jail for snatching

HOSHIARPUR: The court of District and Sessions Judge Amarjot Bhatti sentenced two persons to five years of imprisonment for snatching a purse under Section 379-B of the IPC.

The court of District and Sessions Judge Amarjot Bhatti sentenced two persons to five years of imprisonment for snatching a purse under Section 379-B of the IPC. A fine of Rs10,000 each has also been imposed on them.

In case of non-payment of fine, they will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of one month.

Besides, finding them guilty under Section 411 of the IPC, the court sentenced them one-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs5,000 each.

According to the court orders, both sentences will run concurrently.

Naresh Kumar, a resident of Ekta Enclave, Bullawadi, had  filed a complaint with the police. He had told the police that while returning home after his duty, his wife and he were buying vegetables near Bajwara. 

He had said when his wife was paying the amount to purchase vegetables, two persons on a scooter snatched her purse and escaped. 

He had told the police that the purse contained Rs 4,000 and some important documents. The accused, who were identified as Suraj, alias Dara, and Hardeep, alias Honey, were arrested later. 

The Sadar police had registered a case under Section 379-B and 411 of the IPC against them.
