An FIR was lodged against two people for the consumption of beef in the city.
Two persons - Rahul and Shyamshu - were booked for allegedly possessing two sacks of beef. Area police division in charge, SHO Rajesh Thakur said a case under Sections 3, 5 and 8 of “The Cow Slaughter Act” had been registered against both the individuals and criminal proceedings would be implemented after the complete enquiry.
At 10.45 pm in the morning, a leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Punjab, along with his fellow workers, seized 4 kg beef from Rahul’s rented apartment. Sanjeev Prashar, VHP leader alleged, “We received information from sources that some people residing in Dakoha, a locality at New Ganesh Nagar in Dhilwan, were engaged in consuming beef. Therefore, we arranged a trap since 9 am in the morning, to catch them.”
Rahul, originally a Bangladesh native, has been living here with his family, including four children and his wife.
He said he bought beef for the first time, and a supplier from Basti Bawa Khel had delivered it to him.
Meanwhile, aided by a police team, the police acted to nab beef suppliers, who reportedly left the spot when cops reached there.
