Phagwara, April 25

Two former bureaucrats and two doctors are in the fray in the Hoshiarpur (reserve) parliament constituency.

Congress candidate Raj Kumar Chabbewal is a radiologist and has been running scanning centres in many towns and AAP candidate Dr Ravjot Singh, MD (Medicine), is running a hospital in Hoshiarpur.

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded retired IAS officer Som Parkash, who is the sitting MLA from the Phagwara Assembly constituency. Parkash also worked as the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, and Hoshiarpur in the past.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has allotted the ticket to Khushi Ram IAS (retd), who had worked as the SDM in Phagwara and Dasuya. BJP candidate Som Parkash will face a tough contest with Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal due to the denial of the ticket to the sitting BJP MP  Vijay Sampla. BJP candidate Som Parkash will have to pacify Sampla.

Seven out of the nine Assembly constituencies are being represented by the Congress MLAs and the rest by the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates.

Parkash has started campaigning after paying obeisance at various shrines on Wednesday.

Fact file

Seven out of the nine Assembly constituencies in Hoshiarpur are being represented by the Congress MLAs and the rest by the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party candidates.
