Jalandhar, January 22

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA from Adampur Pawan Tinu today submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner over the closing of an ITI, set up two years ago by the previous government.

The MLA said former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had set up five ITIs during the last tenure. “The ITI in Adampur had enrolled 250 students in 2016 in various trades, including fashion designing and software designing. There were nearly 12 teachers deployed here then. But the new government did not let fresh enrolment happen and the gates of the building set up at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore today stand locked,” he stated.

Accompanied by SAD district president Kulwant Singh Manan, Tinu said the students who were enrolled in the two-year courses had been shifted to the ITIs at Tanda, Jalandhar or elsewhere and the students of Adampur were now finding it difficult to commute daily. The teachers too had been shifted elsewhere, he said, were demanding the restoration of the ITI from the district administration and the state government.
