The Government Primary School, at Takarla village, situated at the remote Kandi area in Nawanshahr district has emerged as an epitome of ‘Self Made Smart School’.

The staff of the school has set worth emulating initiative of setting up smart classrooms having the latest technology. The school is also the first school in the village that has started a pick-and-drop facility for the students of nearby villages by mobilising donations from the NRI’s, NGOs and through community support.

The staff has not only spruced up the school infrastructure, the academic results of the school have also been improved.

“To enhance the enrolment of students teachers are also spearheading the ‘Each One, Bring One’ drive. A total of 69 students have been enrolled during the current academic session,” said Baljinder Singh Virk, head teacher of the school.

“The school staff, with the cooperation of the Khawayish Sewa Society, an NGO, village panchayat and philanthropists have consistently been bringing in infrastructural development and quality improvement in education,” he added.

Virk said: “A beautiful building, having serene and conducive environment has been set-up at the school.”

“The classes have projectors, LED and e-content facility that help making children understand the subjects,” he added. “Students from adjoining villages, including Mansewal, Adoana, Rajumazra and Rattewal have been admitted at Government Primary School, Takarla,” added Baljinder Singh Virk.

Virk said: “The school is the first in the district that have arranged a vehicle for the convenience of the students. The school at present has as many as 155 students from pre-primary to V classes and the admission process is going on.”
