Considerring the increasing carbon dioxide emission by vehicles and increasing cost of fuel, a team of engineering students of Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions have developed a electric-powered jeep.

The jeep has been developed by Mechanical Engineering students Charanjit Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Anmol Bains, Harpreet Singh and Manoj Kumar under the supervision of HoD Prof Gaurav Parashar.

The project was presented during a press conference which was held here today.

Dr HS Dhami principal of the Rayat Bahra Engineering College informed that the jeep, was a novel idea to revolutionise the concept of electric vehicles as they need long hours of charging with a short range of running.

“The jeep weighs 350-kg and can run for 60 km with one hour charging. Its a a low-cost alternative automobile for short trips and could be used for recreational activity,” told the campus director, Rayat Bahra Hoshiarpur Dr Chander Mohan.

Students and Prof Parashar told that the jeep was fitted with a powerful 900-watt DC motor which runs on 48 volts electric power acquiring the current from batteries installed in the jeep.

The battery can be prepared in an hour’s charging to run the jeep for 60 km at speed of 35-km. Prof Parashar said: “The cost of constructing the jeep is about around Rs 80,000.

Campus director Dr Chander Mohan said: “This kind of vehicle did not emit toxic gases or any kind of smoke and it ran on clear energy source. Prior to this, students of Rayat and Bahra group have developed an E-bike and battery-operated foldable bicycle too. He told that last year at Hoshiarpur campus.”
