Students inclined towards highly paying courses

JALANDHAR: Courses ranging from vocational and skill development under National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to professional courses, including mental health, financial services and stock market training are becoming the most sought after courses among students, who are seeking admission in cloeges this year.

Courses ranging from vocational and skill development under National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to professional courses, including mental health, financial services and stock market training are becoming the most sought after courses among students, who are seeking admission in cloeges this year.

Besides, several other market-oriented degrees and diplomas have also been introduced by the city-based colleges.The newly introduced short-term courses like ILETS/ English proficiency course, sound recording and media production, beauty and wellness, French, social media and marketing and others are widely popular among youths who are aspiring to settle Abroad.

The admission councillor at HMV College claimed that students were opting short-term professional courses to migrate to foreign countries.

Specialised course under BVoc and MVoc

Besides, to facilitate students with job-oriented diplomas, new courses introduced under ‘Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Kaushal Kendra Yozna’ have captured the attention of students.

Ekta Khosla, DDU incharge at HMV college said, “The skill development courses helps students to get a job immediately after completing their degrees. The subjects, including — MVoc in Web Technology and Multimedia, BVoc Mental Health and Counselling, Cosmetology and Wellness, diploma in organic farming and diploma in medical lab technology, apart enhancing their skills, also keeps them updated with the market trends.”

“Similarly, industrial tie-ups and internships, provided under the scheme, have made the job hunt easier for the students,” said Dean, Academics of the college, Kanwal Deep.

Skill development courses

Youths who want to earn money are preferring to obtain a certified certificate only. Jaswinder Singh, admission councillor at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, said courses under the centre for vocational education under Kaushal Kendra were much in demand. These include — Cinematography and Video Editing, Fashion Styling, Practical Aspects of Astrology, Website Design and Development, Data Science, Product Design Management and Entrepreneurship, E-commerce and Digital Marketing, Theatre and Stagecraft and dance.

Similarly, regular graduate courses have also been modified, including BCom in Banking and Financial Services, BSc (Internet and Mobile Technology), BPT (Physiotheraphy), BA in Fashion and Garment Construction.
