Jalandhar, December 31

To protest against the indifferent attitude of the state government, the Punjab Government Contract Employees Joint Action Committee has decided to observe the first day of the year as black day by wearing black badges.

They have been demanding regularisations of their services. Following a meeting in Ludhiana, the member of the union decided to observe the first day of New Year as a black day.

District committee president Gagan Sharma said despite several meetings with the state government representatives, the demands remained unfulfilled. The workers have been working at meager salaries for the past 20 years. He said before the elections, the SAD-BJP alliance had promised to regularise their services.

“Meanwhile the government has been making a policy of two-year trial. As majority of the employees have been working for 20 years, there is no need of such trials,” he said.—TNS
