Jalandhar, December 16

Ahead of their meeting with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on December 17, members of the SSA/RMSA Teachers Union today held a huge state-level convention at the Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall here. Condemning the government’s decision to hike the salaries of MLAs even as their salaries had been massively slashed, the union teachers said they would not shy away from protest again if the CM dishonoured his assurance of a review of the decision to slash their salaries.

The union’s 56-day long struggle at Patiala under the banner of the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha was suspended temporarily from December 1 onwards after Education Minister OP Soni visited their dharna and assured them that the decision of the government to slash their salaries would be reviewed.

Addressing the gathering, state president Hardeep Todarpur and state general secretary Gurpreet Ammiwal said after the long struggle though the Education Minister had agreed to their demands and a review of the government’s decision had been announced, but if the Chief Minister doesn’t hold a meeting with them, as assured, then the SSA RMSA teachers would hold another protest under the morcha.
