A sea of devotees participated in the ‘Shobha Yatra’ carried out a day ahead of Guru Ravidass Jayantitoday.

Religious hymns were sung as it passed through the bazaars. Langars were installed on the entire route.

Lok Sabha MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh; MLAs Sushil Kumar Rinku and Chaudhary Surinder Singh; Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma; and Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also participated in the ‘Yatra’.

The MP, MLAs and DC urged the people to tread the path shown by Guru Ravidass. They said that Guru Ravidass was a spiritual ambassador and messiah of the poor and unprivileged sections of the society, who taught everyone to lead a virtuous and noble life.

General Secretary of Punjab Congress, Chaudhary Vikramjit Singh; Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja; Senior Deputy Mayor Harsimranjit Singh Bunty; Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh; Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police D Sudharvizhi; PS Bhandal, Assistant Commissioner Himanshu Jain, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sarabjit Rai, among others, were present.

Phagwara: A ‘Shobha Yatra’ was carried out on the eve of Guru Ravidass Jayanti here today. Representatives of various political, social and religious organisations participated in the ‘Yatra. Hymns were chanted by ‘Jathas’ during the ‘Yatra’.

The ‘Yatra’ commenced from Ravi Dass Mandir, Chack Hakim, and passed through different roads and markets. Adequate security arrangements were made by the police on the occasion.

Former minister Joginder Singh Maan; former Santokh Singh Chaudhary; Mayor Arun Khosla; Senior Superintendent of Police Kapurthala, Satinder Singh; SP Mandeep Singh; ASP Sandeep Malik; and DSP Manpreet Dhillon participated in the yatra.

Phillaur: To celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidass, a ‘Shobha Yatra’ was carried out here today. Thousands of devotees and representatives of various political, social and religious organisations took part in the ‘Yatra’. The ‘Nagar Kirtan’ commenced from Guru Ravidass Mandir, and passed through Garha, Police Colony, Noormahal road, Guru Ravidass Mandir, Ramgarh and Nangal.

Meanwhile, traffic between Ludhiana and Jalandhar was paralysed as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded for two hours during the ‘Shobha Yatra’ at Phillaur and Phagwara despite the police diverting the entire route of the National Highway passing through Phagwara on Monday.
