Scuffle over construction of water tank

Phagwara: A scuffle was witnessed between BJP councillor Reeta, along with her supporters, and residents of Mohalla Kaulsar, including activists of Ambedeker Sena, at the office of the Municipal Corporation in Phagwara on Thursday evening.

Phagwara: A scuffle was witnessed between BJP councillor Reeta, along with her supporters, and residents of Mohalla Kaulsar, including activists of Ambedeker Sena, at the office of the Municipal Corporation in Phagwara on Thursday evening. The issue behind the scuffle is said to be the construction of a water tank. The councillor wanted early construction of the tank while the residents were opposing the site of the proposed water tank due to a statue of Dr Ambedkar installed near the site. The BJP councillor, along with other councillors, sat on a dharna on this issue. Later, the residents and activists of the Dr BR Ambedeker Welfare Society Club met SP Parminder Singh Bhandal and submitted a memorandum. OC

Blood donation camp  

Phagwara: A blood donation camp was organised at the Civil Hospital here on Friday. As many as 35 youths donated blood at the camp. SP Parminder Singh Bhandal inaugurated the camp. OC

Students visit Khatkar Kalan  

Phagwara: Students of the Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, recently visited Khatkar Kalan village, ancestral town of Bhagat Singh. The students of the History Department led by Kamlesh and Dr Rinka visited the museum that has been dedicated to the martyr at the village. The state government look after the museum. The students were mesmerised after seeing personal belongings of Bhagat Singh. College principal Dr Kiran Walia said the purpose of the visit was to apprise the students of the history and contribution of Bhagat Singh to the freedom struggle of the country. OC

9 more services at Sewa Kendras

Phagwara: Kapurthala DC Mohammad Tayab on Friday said the state government had decided to provide nine more services at Sewa Kendras. He said six services were related to the Mandi Board while three were related to the Transport Department. OC
