Schools urged to pay heed to environment

MLA Angad Singh, planted saplings and participated in the Volleyball match to promote tree plantations and sports activity in Nawanshahr government schools. The event was organised by the District Education Department.

While addressing the gathering of school principals, headmasters, teachers, students and prominent citizens here at JSFH Khalsa Sr Sec School, the MLA said, “Mission Tandrust Punjab is a comprehensive programme to bring qualitative improvement in the lives of the people of Punjab.

Under it, concerted and consistent efforts by all the departments have been initiated to provide safe air, drinking water, pollution-free environment and adulteration-free eatables to adopt proper life style to ensure a healthy life.

The MLA exhorted the school principals and headmasters to mobilise students to plant and preserve trees and to participate in sports activity.

Angad said he was keen to on starting a state of the art Sports Complex at Nawanshahr equipped with infrastructural facilities and coaches to promote different games and athletic events.

The ‘Dilbagh Singh Yadhgari Trust’ has also decided to start open tournaments to promote Kabbaddi, Football and Cricket as well as to channelise the energy of youth towards constructive purposes.

He asked the school principals to motivate students and the youth in their surroundings to participate in the tournaments.

District Education Officer, Vinod Kumar said apart from bringing in qualitative improvement in academic activities, the District Education Department had been taking dedicated steps to promote cleanliness as well as preservation of environment and sports. Priority was being given to the setting up of smart schools, construction of toilets, planting saplings and promoting sports.
