Rs 3.45 lakh collected as fine from food joints

The Court of Amrit Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)-cum- Adjudicating officer, Nawanshahr, has collected a total of Rs 3.45 lakh as fine from various food outlets, including factory canteens, hoteliers, restaurants, dhabas, karyana stores, confectiones, sweetmeat shops, milk vendors and fast food joints in 30 cases for selling sub-standard/mis-branded/ expiry and misleading food items recently.

Divulging details, Assistant Commissioner (Food), SBS Nagar, Manoj Khosla, said Food Safety officers Rakhi Vinayak and Sangeeta Sehdev under his supervision had taken samples from various outlets which were declared sub-standard/mis-branded/expiry/ mis-leading. All cases were filed in the said court.

He said Kanwar Pardeep Singh of Canteen of DSM Sinochem Pharmaceutical Private Limited, Tonsa, had been fined Rs 1.87 lakh in six cases (Rs 40,000 for selling/using sub-standard curd, Rs 25,000 for selling/using sub-standard milk) and supplier of the milk Ram Chand of Bullewal Rs 10,000.

Kanwar has also been fined Rs 25,000 for using a mis-branded saunf and its supplier company Kashi Ram Ashok Kumar Balachaur has been fined Rs 10,000.

Kanwar Pardeep Singh has also been fined Rs 7,000 for using mis-branded besan for and its supplier company Raju Departmental Store, Ropar, has been penalised Rs 10,000. Kanwar Pardeep Singh has been fined Rs 20,000 for using mis-branded atta and its supplier company Raju Departmental Store has been fined Rs 10,000, and also, Rs 20,000 fine has been slapped on Kanwar Pardeep for using a mis-branded daal and the supplier company, Raju Departmental Store, Ropar, has been fined Rs 10,000.

Along with them, a number of shopkeepers having their establishments in the area have also been fined Rs 1.58 lakh. Khosla has urged sellers of food items to get them registered with the Food Safety Department by securing their food licenses as selling such items without a license could get them fined further upto Rs 5 lakh, along with imprisonment up to six months.
