Eminent personalities of the city have appealed to every resident to exercise his franchise.

Vice-chairman of Sonalika International Tractors Ltd, Amrit Sagar Mittal, said: “Everyone must cast the vote. It is not just our duty but our contribution is essential in choosing the government.”

Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s grandson Advocate Sukhwinderjit Singh Sangha said: “Martyrs laid their lives for the freedom of the country. Therefore, every voter should perform his duty by casting vote. It is one of the most important and effective way of expressing gratitude towards the martyrs.”

Indrajit Kaur Nandan, a PWD person with disability, Divyang who was honoured with the National Award for Empowering the Persons with Disabilities said the right to vote is the duty of countrymen, ading that every citizen should cast vote.

“I appeal to Divyang voters that they must cast vote. Special arrangements have been made for their convenience. Therefore they must contribute to strengthen the democracy by exercising their franchise.”

“Matdaan” (voting) is the biggest ‘Daan’ (donation) to strengthen the democracy. On the occasion of this festival of democracy, we all are duty-bound to vote to protect our rights and the nation because our vote will decide the future of our country,” said National youth awardee from Hoshiarpur, Pramod Sharma.
